Growth is always near.From the realm of imagination, my life unfolds. Had you approached a younger version of me 12-15 years ago, inquiring about a future in digital marketing or even writing, you'd likely have been met with a cheeky dig, quip or scoffed at..In all honesty, school wasn’t quite my thing. In fact, I didn’t make it to the finish line. Picture me: restless, perpetually plotting mischief, more jester - less scholar.
Growth Marketing is a far cry for someone who could barely sit still in class, let alone constantly looking for mischief. But for me, it ticked lots of boxes as I grew into the digital scape and ‘matured’. Almost tailor-made for my lively, inquisitive mind. It became a treasure hunt for sniffing out ‘growth hacks’ that others couldn’t see. Getting well rewarded for this suited my neurodivergent, introverted brain to a tee.It was the perfect symbiosis: A flywheel of creativity, and digital analysis to help initially put money on the table and live the way I intended to, day in - day out. At least for now? My thrill for tech tinkering since I was young, constantly got me into trouble for hacking, and breaking things. And my ‘knack’ for tech problem solving was an aptitude my parents realised I had since I was very young, founded from a blend of curiosity and escapism in my swervy' childhood.Fast forward to current times: Over the past few years, this pursuit has taken me around the world, building my own content marketing agency and working with international brands in SaaS, Product E-Commerce & Coaching (wild). Collaborating alongside some of the best in the game including Mindvalley’s Jay Shetty, Joe Dispenza, Fisher & Paykel, Corcoran and many more. It’s been quite the ride.From scaling Organic YouTube channels and communities, garnering millions of views per month to helping scale e-commerce brands from humble beginnings - 200k up to 3-5 million per month in e-commerce. I’ve seen a few success stories.But amid all this, a transformation bubbled. I guess that comes with age right? Labels tried to stick to me throughout the journey, often earmarked as a rogue, lone wolf, or seen as a flight risk. Someone who might go AWOL when least expected. I got sick of flogging any old unsustainable products and I found the tribes I cared about:
The ‘Ma & Pa’ brands, so to speak. The grassroots dreamers: solo mothers, Indonesian boy - local visionary, or young school graduate who is hustling to make ends meet constantly, but has a pulse on their local market and interests. Essentially solving a problem close to home that’s meaningful to them. Becoming paid to exist.
Developing a simple, quality product from the confines of their home - bootstrapped, with an impactful brand as the byproduct.Eat your heart out Unilever - a problem many blue-chip companies didn't account for. These upstarts, challenging industry giants, echoed something profoundly appealing to me. This new evolution of Native Brands mixed with mass-scale application from the audience in digital was fascinating. There is so much opportunity!Helping someone like this gave me a North Star - at least for now. With my growing affinity for mindfulness, psychology, and the mysteries of plant medicines, the horizon ahead seems nothing short of interesting.Life so far has been a blend of direction from wise mentors and lessons from misadventures. I’m still screwing up a lot! But as I continue to learn, my journey is a beacon for yours.My experience is your guidance.Now you know a glimpse about me.More to come*J.
